Gunn onthult waarom Pattinsons Batman afwezig is in DCU

'The Batman Part II' zal losstaan van het DCU's "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" en zal worden uitgebracht als een DC Elseworlds titel, die zich in een apart universum bevindt. Ondanks de afwezigheid in het DCU, blijft Matt Reeves werken aan het vervolg als onderdeel van zijn eigen Batman misdaadsaga, die ook de Penguin TV-serie omvat. 'The Batman Part II' staat gepland voor oktober 2025. James Gunn is nog steeds betrokken bij het geven van input voor deze en andere Elseworlds titels zoals 'Joker: Folie à Deux'.
Waarom is 'The Batman' met Robert Pattinson niet onderdeel van het nieuwe DCU?
Volgens James Gunn was het een keuze van 'The Batman' regisseur Matt Reeves en niet een kwestie van toestemming. Reeves gaf de voorkeur aan het behoud van zijn Batman films als een zelfstandige serie en DC Studios respecteert deze beslissing.
'The Batman', uitgebracht in 2022, was een film die het verhaal van Batman op een donkere en realistische manier benaderde en werd met positieve recensies onthaald.
